For the majority of his career, Jonathan Goodale has worked in the upstream natural resources industry for both small independent companies and large multinational public corporations. As the President of UMIC Cote d’Ivoire, he was successful in leading the exploration and development efforts that reestablished oil production in that country.

His leadership enabled UMIC to collaborate successfully with this underdeveloped West African nation, growing its natural resource base and allowing them to become energy independent. Goodale was knighted (Chevalier) by the nation for his efforts.

Jonathan’s roles included technical evaluation, contract negotiations, financial forecasting, strategic planning, and management of all resources (capital, human and intellectual). Most recently Jonathan was the leading force in the team that built CMNSL from a few million dollars of risk capital to an entity that had an enterprise value to the parent company of $350 million.

Jonathan and his wife of 40 years are active members of Faithbridge UMC in Spring, Texas. They have two children and four grandchildren.

John’s career spans 45 years and currently he owns a management consulting firm focused on helping senior executives define and then execute organizational behavior change.

Prior to this John was with CSC, a global IT Services company, for 21 years where the last 12 years he served as Director of Delivery Assurance for North America accounts in the commercial applications outsourcing group. John’s personal reward in this position was to help the account executives and their direct reports to implement recommendations. Executive coaching in how to do efficient behavior change in large organizations was a critical part of actually making things different.

Measurement has been an important aspect of John’s career. He was lead author of an innovative approach to measuring real organizational behavior change – in answer to the real business challenge, of actually changing the customer relationship in a positive direction. John brings that mindset to the practical issues that executives face every day in their business issues.

John has experience in facilitation of groups and individuals for both personal and business growth, resolving business issues and mentoring both in a business context and spiritual setting. These are all part of why John is a Convene Chair. It’s what John is about, and what lights up his heart. Convene appeals to John as it brings all his experience and talents to bear in building the Kingdom of God.

A coach at heart, Pat Murphy has employed this God-given gifting to build people and organizations for the past 34 years. Over a 25 year career in the financial services industry, he was blessed to have grown two sales and marketing teams into Top 10 National status with two different Fortune 50 companies.

Running a business and leading a staff of 80 plus associates provides Pat with an invaluable foundation of experience from which to coach leaders. In addition, having conducted over 15,000 one-on-one meetings in his career has provided Pat with a base of experience in listening and understanding which serves well those he has coached.

At the height of his professional life, God called Pat into the non-profit world spending the last 7+ years on the staff of a non-denominational church. God has been refining and equipping him to help leaders grow in even more significant ways.

Irvine

Bob Fry is the Chief Investment Advisor to the National Christian Foundation in Atlanta, Georgia, and a principal of Makarios LLC in Laguna Beach, California. Prior to forming Makarios in 2007, Bob worked for ten years at Merrill Lynch in a number of investment and management positions including service as Merrill Lynch Trust Company’s first Director of Investments. In that capacity, he supervised the investment processes that guided $10 billion in trust assets, was a member of Merrill Lynch Trust Company’s Board of Directors and served as chairman of the Investment Committee.

In addition to his investment work, Bob volunteers as a Senior Gift Advisor for the National Christian Foundation of Southern California. In that capacity he assists donors in considering different giving options from an estate and income tax perspective. In this ministry work, he draws on previous experience as Director of Charitable Services for Van Deventer & Hoch, Investment Counsel, and as a practicing attorney for 10 years in business, tax and securities law.
Bob earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern California and the degree of Juris Doctor from the University of California at Los Angeles. Over the years, Bob has been a frequent speaker at national events ranging from industry conferences, such as the AICPA Not for Profit Conference in Washington DC, the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) national conference, the BoardSource National Leadership Conference and the Focus on the Family FoundationWise Conference.

He is also the author of numerous articles and of two books, Nonprofit Investment Policies: Practical Steps for Growing Charitable Funds, (John Wiley & Sons, New York, 1998) and Who’s Minding the Money? (BoardSource, Washington DC, 2009).
Bob lives in Irvine, California with his wife, Susan, who teaches Special Education pre-school. They have three children, Jennifer, a recent graduate of Chapman University Law School, in Orange County, California, Katie, who is a second year pediatric resident at Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York, and Jonathan, who is a graduate student in petroleum geology at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.

Finally, unlike many men in their 50’s, Bob has largely given up golf in favor of full-court pick-up basketball, where his much younger fellow players often observe, “he can’t shoot . . . but he sure runs hard for an old guy!”

What’s the value of a single idea? CEO Bob Jensen estimates the ROI gained solely from Convene’s key indicator system has yielded well over $1 million for Denver-based Pioneer Centres, the 285-employee auto dealership group.

General Manager Performance
Key indicator trends helped Bob realize that a long-time general manager had become a hindrance to that store’s performance and needed to be let go.

Fiscal impact: $1 million in annual revenue.

CEO Time Savings
According to the 18-year CEO, “Convene helped me focus on the broader vision rather than getting bogged down in details that other people should be doing. I was able to keep tabs on the details by implementing a key indicator system and I’m able to have the same feel for the business as before. This has directly saved me 3 or 4 days a month of my time.” Bob realized this benefit within 4 months of joining Convene.

Fiscal impact: what’s 36-48 days a year of your time worth??

Inventory Management
Bob leveraged the Convene best practice to identify a department manager who was badly mismanaging parts inventory at another dealership.

Fiscal impact: $120,000 – $180,000 in annual net profit.

Bob’s counsel to other busy CEOs: “You probably don’t have the time not to do [Convene].”
